V&A Museum trip

On the 15 jan we all made a big trip to the Victoria & Albert museum. The V&A is the largest museum in the world and holds just over 4 million objects, we all made our way up there and arrived at 11:30am and headed straight to meet Cara who is the head of the marketing research in the museum. She talked about the previous posters that have been used to attract younger people, and how they took their approach on it.

Overall the whole day was very successful, I think everyone has definately felt alot more inspired about this project. I would definately recommend coming up to the V&A Museum because it is just such an amasing museum. With over 7 miles of history it is a huge museum and has such a broad range of objects, although we only scratched the surface I think i have a good idea of what the marketing campaign really wants from us.

I took some pictures these are probably the best outcomes out of the day..

File types.

PSD

A psd file is used for layered files for photoshop. These layers enable you to control artwork text and photo layers. Used for mainly photo editing and for photo maipulation, usually a large file. Because of this it is not suitable for uploading images to the internet.

Ai.

An Ai. file is used for vector images in Adobe Illustrator. This is a lossless file and uses information such as measurements and angles to produce the image instead of using pixel files. As a result of this it is useful for large scale printing for type posters, large text and other files like this.

.JPEG

A JPEG is a lossy file which where information is lost during the compression of a file such as, .PSD, PNG, Indd etc. Used for compact cameras and uploading images on the web it is the most common file type.

Indd.

This is a file type for laying out your artwork and presenting. Used mainly for final print for magazines, book layout, poster design and other uses. Used literally for laying out the text and page size so you can be confident your piece will look how you want it to fit.

FLA.

Flash file is used for creating animations, websites and creating moving images. Some files that are flash have to be converted to Javascript, Quicktime and others.

Concrete Type Piece.

Inspired by SuperExpresso's work I took photos of concrete textures and created type using a real locking slab rule. It took me a while to figure out how to make the type work well and really pop-out. The hardest part was really thinking about the layout so that all your attention is drawn to the "type". Overall I am really happy with this piece and I am glad I used handmade methods to produce a strong digital outcome.

Super Expresso

This is an amazing type poster produced by Superexpresso.com he says on his "about me" page that he tries to convey hand-drawn pieces and techniques with mordern-day technology. Follow this link to view his work. http://www.superexpresso.com/

Type Poster

Thinking with Type poster- I designed another type poster but this time I chose more colourful imagery and went for a symmetry kind of theme with the type. This time round things are a lot better but it's still early days.

Type poster

I produced a rough version of a type poster for my type project. the poster is based around Ellen Lupton's Thinking with Type.

I still feel it needs more development but it's a good start.
