File types.


PSD

A psd file is used for layered files for photoshop. These layers enable you to control artwork text and photo layers. Used for mainly photo editing and for photo maipulation, usually a large file. Because of this it is not suitable for uploading images to the internet.

Ai.

An Ai. file is used for vector images in Adobe Illustrator. This is a lossless file and uses information such as measurements and angles to produce the image instead of using pixel files. As a result of this it is useful for large scale printing for type posters, large text and other files like this.

.JPEG

A JPEG is a lossy file which where information is lost during the compression of a file such as, .PSD, PNG, Indd etc. Used for compact cameras and uploading images on the web it is the most common file type.

Indd.

This is a file type for laying out your artwork and presenting. Used mainly for final print for magazines, book layout, poster design and other uses. Used literally for laying out the text and page size so you can be confident your piece will look how you want it to fit.

FLA.

Flash file is used for creating animations, websites and creating moving images. Some files that are flash have to be converted to Javascript, Quicktime and others.
